Abstract

Leadership in COVID-19 crisis is receiving increasing attention. To date, the literature exploring the challenges and the outcomes of leading during the COVID-19 crisis has been haphazard. The current research provides a framework for understanding how leaders can maintain their effectiveness during the crisis caused by the global pandemic. To this end, we performed a literature search using academic databases (e.g. ProQuest, EBSCO, Scopus, APA Psych Info, Scholars Portal Journal) focusing on organizational leadership during the COVID-19 pandemic. After careful screening, 20 articles were included to our narrative review. A qualitative content analysis was conducted to identify broad themes. Several subthemes were then identified and their connection to employee psychological, work-based, and health-related outcomes were examined. In doing so, we proposed a framework of leadership during the COVID-19 crisis. Practical implications are discussed.
