Each year, the Society for Advancement of Management (SAM) solicits proposals for sessions to be presented at our International Business Conference. This year we bring you the theme for our 79th Annual Conference: Advancing Management: Powerful Practices Driving Organizational Success. Below is key information for those considering submitting a session proposal.

When does the Call for Proposals open?
The Call for Proposals submission portal opens in September for the upcoming year’s conference. Our early decision deadline for priority consideration is December 15, 2023. We will continue to receive and consider additional proposals through January 8, 2024.

We accept proposals for our Academic Research Presentation concurrent sessions, Management Workshops, and Panel Sessions. Our conference schedule has limited space for Workshops and Panels, so make sure to submit your proposal early!

Who should submit a proposal?
Our presenters fall into three main categories: academic, student, and practitioner.  Academic presenters are usually members of the management community who are also engaged in management education facilitating courses or programs of study at institutions.  Students at those institutions are also welcome to submit proposals. Additionally, we invite management practitioners whose experience puts theory into practice at organizations and businesses around the globe. Finally, we heavily encourage researcher/practitioner collaborations in developing session proposals and give these types of joint efforts special consideration in our conference programming.

What topics should proposals address?
Our conference features eleven tracks representing a wide variety of management areas and is designed to encourage proposals that feature topics that are timely, engaging, creative and innovative. We are looking for content designed to move management as a discipline… forward!

While you can get more detailed information on our Submission Tracks here. We look forward to proposals that would be classified in the following tracks

  • Public Health & Healthcare Management
  • Sports & Hospitality Management
  • Esports Management
  • Organization Studies
  • Entrepreneurship
  • Innovation Management
  • Information Systems and Operations Management
  • Functional Areas of Business
  • Sector Specific Management
  • Social Issues in Management
  • Management at Large

Again, proposals should be engaging and display creativity and innovation in areas that meet the needs of our global management community. Applicants should rely on their expertise, and collaboration between institutions and organizations is encouraged!

For what types of sessions can proposals be submitted?

This year we are pleased to offer a hybrid conference, with both Virtual and In-Person sessions for our event attendees.

  • Research Paper Presentation Sessions: Research-based presentations that feature cited studies, newly conducted research, or conceptual papers offering new perspectives. Traditionally such papers are presented by management educators or seasoned managers who have significant on-the-job experience to bring to bear on the topic of choice.
  • Poster Presentations: Static displays of information that feature cited studies, newly conducted research, or conceptual papers offering new perspectives presented without a formal individual session. A great idea for student research presentation opportunities!
  • Panel Sessions: Moderated discussions on a select topic with three (3) or more featured experts in the field.
  • Workshops: Fully interactive sessions structured with specific deliverables at the conclusion of the session. These sessions must extend beyond a lecture-based delivery and focus on collaboration and engagement among the attendees. (Due to the constraints and time limitations of workshops, we will only accept in-person workshop proposals).

What is needed for submission of a session proposal?

  • An Abstract! We need an outline of any session proposal submitted through our Proposal Management System, EasyChair. Please be concise in your abstract and feel free to upload your full paper within the system. Because we know you are eager to submit your proposals, you may also simply Click Here to submit your proposal!
  • Contact information for each proposal participant (name, email, and institutional affiliation). For Research and Poster Presentations, only one participant is required to attend the conference, for Panel Sessions and Workshops all participants must register for the conference.
  • Session description (limited to 500 words).
